THINK HARDER!

The Midwest Flood 2008...
Its truly amazing that at times, the worst times can bring out the best in people. I've watched some of
the coverage, and time and time again, people seemed, somehow, to keep their heads up. What was uncanny was how many absolutely unselfish
people were seen on the news helping out. Last night I saw TONS of people coming out to help people from all over the COUNTRY. They
were HEAVING 40 pound sand bags to save ONE HOUSE in Illinois. It was the damndest thing I'd ever seen. It made me feel good watching
the news for once.
Family after family came to help their brothers and sisters in need. People, selfishly came from MILES AND MILES away to help flood
victims. Upon HOURS of the announcement that small towns in Illionois were going to be flooded, Carrie and her Husband "Big Stan"
Hubbard came from as far away as MILWAUKEE, WI. They came she said, "Because if it were us and people could help out, we know we would
appreciate it." The National Guard showed up and helped citizens with sand bags, boats, evacuating, security, humvees, etc. Truly,
the American SPIRIT was alive. I enjoyed it very much.
So...
So, if people can help like that for towns that literally have a population of 35, why didn't people show up like that for NEW ORLEANS andHURRICANE KATRINA? I have looked all around today online, HOPING I would read someone write that very question, but after a long search,
I haven't found ONE person that's asked that. Why is that do you think? I don't know either, reader. But when we make such a mistake,
like the one we so obviously made after Katrina, I would hope we could revisit it at a time like this and find answers.
Katrina's
cost was at $25.3 BILLION! The city's hospitals are at 60% open. FORTY PERCENT of the HOSPITALS IN THE AREA are either closed or are
at bare minimum. 2,000 people died! Lots of them directly after the hurricane careened into the city.
The list goes on and on and
on.
The two awful tragedies aren't that different in that people had PLENTY of time to know that something bad was going to happen. We
had more than enough man power for both. There were plenty of data telling people exactly what COULD HAPPEN, but the residents of
New Orleans really got the shaft. Hurricane Katrina is one of the biggest black eyes in this Country's HIStory, yet we CONTINUE to
let it just sit there and rot. Did you know if you're having a heart attack, call 911, and the ambulance actually SHOWS UP, you have
over a two hour wait in the ER in New Orleans? Can't we as a 'loving' Country send some funds? Can't we send some help to these fu**ing
people down there? I hold no resentment whatsoever toward the poor people that were affected by the floods. Don't get that wrong,
but in terms of a level of disaster, New Orleans is FAR WORSE EVEN TODAY than those people in the midwest ever THOUGHT about being.
New Orleans was a BIG American city, and one that was never great in the economic scheme of the Country (OUTSIDE OIL), but that doesn't
matter. IT WAS AN AMERICAN CITY, one with awesome history and culture, yet its all but a shadow of what it used to be even after this
much time has gone by.
So I ask ya, what's the difference?
After Katrina, I remember
seeing Bush's airplane on the news when he flew over the city of New Orleans. To the left, you see him the DAY AFTER the floods, on the GROUND, HUGGING the Mayor in a town of Iowa. I think back to what the Mayor of New Orleans said about that plane flight back then, and somehow it angered me then. Now I think he and I share the same sentiments about how certain people view certain things due to certain circumstances. Know what I mean? I think you do, and the more I think about it, the more pissed I get.
I was going to move on, but I cannot. Its very troubling to me at how looking back on Katrina, so many COUNTLESS lives were lost and
people were SUFFERING for DAYS that did not have to. I sat and watched more coverage of it than probably ANYone reading this. I was
glued to it. There was no communication with anyone. The Mayor was begging and begging SOMEone to help the city. Supposedly there
were PLENTY of help vehicles that were stopped on the outskirts, at the border of New Orleans. They weren't allowed in because of
false reports of extreme violence happening within the city. So are you telling me, a liability issue stopped help getting to people
that were dying in FLOOD WATER? If so, that's about the most pussified thing I have ever heard in my life, but you know what, that's
the TRUTH! I don't care if there were people with machetes in the streets, by God it was a MAJOR natural disaster, and that city deserved
MUCH more than it got. It got NOTHING, and you know what, its still getting NOTHING. We then and we are now still PUSHING that city
aside like its something we don't want to acknowledge, and it doesn't matter what economic level you come from or are at now...it
doesn't matter what ethnicity you are, or where you're from, when something happens in this Country like that, DAMNIT we have the
resources to not only HELP, but we have the resources to come in and repair it bigger and better than ever. I read people's conspiracySHIT about 911 all the time. How about you people put a little effort into reading up and DOING something about the Katrina disaster?
I am so pissed off I don't even want to write anymore.
Out.
Comment if you can find your balls.
